Potentially Heretical

The information on this page is highly subject to change as we work to define what kind of theological stance we want to take on Legere. Please do not use what is here as a basis for your own faith.

Creation was, as described by the Angels who visited Legere during the Demon Wars, the entire multiverse surrounding the mortal realm of Legere. Sometimes, Creation was referred to as simply “the multiverse”. Creation itself was comprised of multiple worlds, also called dimensions or universes. Each world could be visualized as an island floating through an interdimensional sea called The Void.

Dimensional Hierarchy

The Base & Transcendent Dimensions

There were a nearly infinite number of dimensions—with new ones being created all the time— yet only a handful of them were far stronger than others, so a dimensional hierarchy formed. Since Heaven and Hell[^2] existed outside of the Void’s scope, that left only one dimension to sit at the top of this chain: the legendary Base Dimension. This dimension was so powerful that nothing outside could even look into it, much less enter, and nothing ever came out. It was also very important to the entire multiverse. The energy radiating off this dimension gave birth to entirely new ones.

Higher Dimensions

Below the Base Dimension were the Higher Dimensions. These were a set of finite dimensions, some of which had origins dating back to the very Beginning. They completely overshadow any lower dimensions by dozens of times in terms of power. If a higher dimension were to be connected with a lower one, the higher one would end up obliterating it unless special care was used. Legere was an example of a higher dimension and was the second most powerful dimension below Core.

Lower Dimensions

Below higher dimensions were, quite fittingly, Lower Dimensions. This was where things got wobbly. While all lower dimensions were dwarfed by higher ones, they also had the potential to overpower each other by any magnitude of times. Some lower dimensions were strong, some were weak. Any dimension could grow in power over time but the exact rules behind this development largely remained a mystery. If a lower dimension accumulated enough power it had a chance of joining the ranks of the higher dimensions. This was how some of the original higher dimensions came to be, but due to the state of the Void throughout most of the multiverse’s history, this was not likely to happen again.

The Creator

The Creator

The architect of reality was an omnipotent, eternal entity known by Legerians as The Creator. He was also referred to as the King of the Angels, a name used because of how the celestial hosts revered and served this entity.

The Creator rarely revealed Himself directly to mortals on Legere, but the continual presence of goodness and the struggle of good to overcome evil was a perpetual reminder of His constant yet intangible presence.

The Angels looked upon The Creator with great respect not just because of His limitless power, but because of who He was as a personality. The Creator’s being was goodness manifest, radiating love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control. Light and life itself were inevitable to spring forth from Him.

Multiversal Constants

Across all of Creation, two things always held true: that which was good and Evil. Goodness and its opposite were not subjectively determined by the mortals of a dimension. Instead, they were inherent to the mind of all sapient beings and defined by Creation’s manufacturer—the Creator.

Good

Goodness itself was straightforward, because it was built upon the personality traits of all that the Creator was.

The power of good was called the divine.

Evil

Evil was not created by the Creator exactly, instead having been formed by introducing the absence of all that the Creator was.

Evil

The very essence of Evil, also called the profane, was pioneered by the Ultimate Evil, and was introduced throughout Creation at the moment of his villainous ascension. Evil itself was an antithetical thing to all that the Creator deemed was “good”.

Evil itself spread throughout Creation in the moment of the Evil One’s rebellion, corrupting every world by giving all mortalkind the option to forsake what was good and choose the path of darkness. This event was known as The Fall.

Mortal Sapients

Across Creation were creatures broadly classified as sapient. Sapient beings were special among the other creatures within their dimension—they carried with them prominent aspects of the Creator (as a child carries the aspects of their father), and they were endowed with a triune being, a special right given to those favoured by the Creator Himself.

Triune beings’ elements were body, spirit, and soul.

Religious Perspectives

Across all dimensions, fragments of the truth of Creation—namely that it was created by a primordial, all-powerful yet benevolent entity—were revealed through the nature of the world being observed. While the residents of some dimensions interacted directly with supernatural forces (especially in the wake of Demonic incursion) and therefore gained firsthand knowledge of The Creator, many other dimensions simple began to worship yet-to-be fully realized images of Him.

The Fall

The Fall was a tragic event that occurred nearly simultaneously across all dimensions following the birth of the Ultimate Evil.

Origin

The Archangel Samael was once the chief of all Angels, parading the divine legions throughout Heaven in a glorious display of the King’s magnificence. Peace was throughout all of Creation, and there was no need for the legions to go to war.

However, Samael grew proud, and soon had fooled himself into believing that he was in fact powerful enough to stand alone. He saw the Angel’s reliance on the power of the Creator as a weakness. By some means, Samael developed a fear of losing his power should the King of Angels will it. To combat this, Samael developed a new source of power—something that he called Evil. Samael’s theorization surmised that the power of Evil would be a potent source of energy that was inherently negative to the divine light of Heaven—the Profane. Any of the Angels could cast off their ties to their King and replace their inner flame with the fires of the Profane. Evil was a power of independence and self-sufficiency.

On the day of Samael’s declaration of rebellion, he cast off his armour and threw down his weapons—discarding from his person every gift that had been given to him by his King. He raised his hands and cursed the name of the King, and in that moment a flash of magenta light crackled throughout Heaven. Samael gleefully demonstrated his newfound power, and his closest followers all followed suit. Slowly, more Angels joined the movement as they saw the supposed merit of the power of Evil.

The Archangel Michael quickly swooped in to investigate the disturbance, and when he questioned Samael, Michael was offered the opportunity to join his fellow Archangel. When Michael refused to turn away from his Creator, a fight between him and Xadu erupted. Very quickly, Heaven found itself embroiled in war.

The war was short-lived however, as Samael and his fallen angels quickly found themselves outmatched by the heavenly fire wielded by the seraphim. Not willing to repent for their wickedness, Samael departed from Heaven to flee destruction, with the legions of Angels in tow.

In his spite, hatred, and fear of his inevitable defeat, Samael sought to destroy as much of Creation as he could before being brought to justice. His new legion of shedim worked to tear apart lower dimensions while compromising the integrity of higher dimensions. For his sins, Samael’s name was scoured from Heaven, and he began to be referred to by alternative names and titles.

The Fall was defined by the actions of mortals across all dimensions all at once: with the introduction of Evil by the Evil One, sapient beings on every world were presented with the opportunity to choose between evil and good, and evil—even evil of the smallest kind—was done.

While the Creator had the opportunity to totally snuff out Evil, He allowed it to persist in order to respect the decisions made by His creations. In His justice, the Creator responded with two immediate operations to ensure Evil never won. The first was to introduce death into the world by unleashing memitim across Creation, for an evildoer—no matter how small—could not be allowed to live in perpetuity. The second was to mobilize the other Angelic legions to strike back against the Demons that sought to undo Creation itself. A grander plan to undo Evil entirely was set into motion as well, but until that day, all of Creation would be embroiled in a seemingly endless struggle of good and evil.

The Fall on Legere happened so far back that there are no records of it in recorded Legerian history.

The Base Dimension

The Base Dimension, for lack of a better name, was a reality with such forceful potency that it was impossible for any entity from the dimensions that were encapsulated by The Void to exist in them. Only supernatural entities could pass from the Base Dimension to the others.

Not much was known about the Base Dimension within the wider scope of Creation. Even less about the Base Dimension was understood from the scope of Legere. Passing conversation with Angels revealed small, incomplete portions of knowledge regarding the Base Dimension. The biggest known fact was that the Base Dimension was The Creator’s masterpiece, and that every dimension floating through the Void was merely a shallow reflection of the beauty and passion poured into that world by Him.

The Transcendent Dimensions

The transcendent dimensions were separate from the rest of Creation. In fact, calling them dimensions is inherently misleading because they exist outside of the mortal comprehension of time and space. They were supernatural realms that existed long before The Creator forged the true dimensions.

Hell

Hell was a supernatural wasteland world filled with those who decided to indulge the will of the Evil One. It was originally formed by the Creator as a truly empty realm, existing purely to give all creatures the choice to depart from His holy presence.

Once the Evil One corrupted Creation, all manner of mortal creatures began to fall into Hell’s pits after their death.

Heaven

Heaven was the realm of Angels, a brightly lit paradise devoid of any spiritual or physical darkness. Buildings and streets were built of gold, and its residents lived in perfect harmony with each other.

The centerpiece of Heaven was The Creator’s Palace, a fortress where The King of Angels Himself ruled the cosmos from. This divine castle was limitless in its size and beauty, and served as the home of all good and noble sapients from higher dimensions resurrected after they had perished.

Footnotes

  1. Imps were first deployed in warfare against Creation in a lower dimension known as the Cubic Realm. The imps proved remarkably effective, as the Angelic forces sent to intercept the invasion were unable to deal with the enormous tide of foes that clambered over that reality before collapsing it. Since then, imps have been involved with every demonic assault, including the invasion of Core.
