Blobito Kurai was a unique, bizarre creature somewhere between a shade and a living shadow. Kurai was native to the Shadowkeep, but frequented the material world of Legere while bound to the Hero of the Archangel Osten.

Appearance

Kurai’s normal appearance was a wide, jiggly blob of living shadow. At will, Kurai could manifest tiny arms to pick up and move things.

Kurai had no face or facial features, save for two pinpricks of pale, nearly white glowing eyes.

Personality

Kurai was moderately intelligent, approximately identical to a Dragon. He was sometimes aloof, sometimes comedic, but often remained quite serious—a reflection of his summoner, Osten.

Kurai found the material world of Legere fascinating yet terrifying; the light was fearsome to a shadowy creature like itself, especially one that preferred to keep to the darkest parts of Legere’s darkest plane.

The longer Kurai remained summoned on Legere, the more anxious, irritable, and impatient he became.

Abilities

While most living shadows took the form of a Legerian creature from the material world, Kurai could transform into various creatures himself. Beyond this, Kurai could even hybridize different parts of various creatures into a singular form. When summoned into combat by Osten, these abilities lent great adaptability and versatility to him.

Kurai could also assume the form of Osten himself—by enveloping Osten in himself, the two could unite into a towering, powerful, shadowy giant.

Kurai had its own dark favour to grant Osten. This behaved similarly to baseline dark favour used by other shadowmancers, but was tied to Kurai’s tolerance of the material world.

The longer Kurai remained summoned on Legere, the more anxious, irritable, and impatient he became.

Once Kurai’s tolerance was depleted for the day, Osten’s shadowmantic abilities dried up, identical to how a shadowmancer’s powers departed once out of dark favour.

Living in the Cracks

Kurai was an amorphous, ooze-like creature that slipped through the cracks between the Shadowkeep’s non-euclidean walls. Sightings of Kurai were sparse enough to make him elusive and legendary, yet frequent enough to cement his existence as real.

Shadowmancers referred to Kurai as The Shadow of Shadows, a reference to his evasive presence. Kurai would receive his name by Osten only after the two had bonded.

While Kurai moved about the entire Shadowkeep freely, he had a den of his own that was hidden to outsiders (until he chose to reveal it)—much like the Loom Masters’ Sanctum. This veiled nest was what allowed him to avoid the ire of the Dark Mage Zak when he dominated the Shadowkeep. By extension, this lair was also instrumental for allowing Osten to regenerate dark favour safely at night when his dreams whisked him into the walls of the Shadowkeep.
