S'berp

A small, transparent slug often found in and around tidepools and seashores of all shapes and size. S’berps were no larger than a hand, and possessed an appetite to rival the biggest predators on Legere. S’berps were very harmless though, posing no threat to anyone or anything.

S’berps were mainly transparent, slightly blue tinged, slug-like blobs. They lacked internal organs of any kind, instead relying heavily on magical interactions to consume, digest and metabolize food. They also possessed two tiny, bead-like eyes that used magic to see. S’berps could become almost completely invisible while in the water, and could sink into the sand itself to travel or hide away from potential predators. S’berps ere incredibly hard to kill--dividing a s’berp forcefully could result in the instant multiplication of the creature. S’berps could shrivel into nonexistence if separated from salt water for a period greater than 24 hours.

S’berps were a common sight to individuals visiting the beach, emerging from the sand like sentient motes of water at the prospect of food scraps gifted by a generous humanoid. Children especially loved to chase and play with the small things. S'berps were usually small enough to fit comfortably in the hand of a child.

S’berps’ fed passively by absorbing phytoplankton and algae, but were quick to become scavengers of anything edible that washed ashore (this can range from beached shadow squid carcasses to bread thrown by beach-goers).

S’berps were also known in some places as “friendoplasms” due to their visual and reproductive similarities to the far more dangerous ectoplasm. In Sharkville especially, many cases of false alarms were received by Ghosthunters where fishermen or other folk spotted a sneaky s’berp that ended up inside their basement to eat their stored food. Comically enough, Ghoststone weaponry was ineffective against s'berps, causing inexperienced ghosthunters to accidentally split one or two s'berps into a dozen or more.
