Ghosthunters
The first Ghosthunters descended from a Serberker warrior family known as the Rolinfadirs. They were the first to wield the Adalsteinns' creations against the possessed.
History #
Ectoplasms and corpses possessed by them were the most numerous monsters that hunted the early wildlands of northern Legere. When Cuprum settlers first arrived to colonize what would become Corgath, they found themselves constantly hampered by such creatures. While the danger posed by these things was first embraced as an immutable feature of the region, the proud Rolinfadir family stood up to try and do their best to fend off the monsters and protect the colonists.
Soon, colonists began to notice that possessed and ectoplasms alike were avoiding certain spots on rocks. The first theory was that naturally forming, magical energy nexuses were repelling ectoplasms. But further investigation revealed it was the rock itself that was repelling them. Such rock was excavated and simple weapons were made with them to repel the possessed.
Very quickly, the Rolinfadirs (armed with primitive ghoststone arms) became a powerhouse of monster slaying. Further improvements over time increased their efficacy, and they eventually founded a guild to train more ghosthunters to help provide their services across Legere.
Contention with the Lancer Guild #
Many times, The Lancer Guild has attempted to assimilate ghosthunters into the wider vocation of lancing. The Ghosthunter Guild vehemently resisted this, mainly from a position of pride over their own profession's longevity and tradition. They felt that ghosthunters becoming another type of lancer would diminish the importance and namesake of the Rolinfadirs' legacy.
This sentiment isn't shared by every ghosthunter, with many seeing registration as a lancer as a lucrative choice with access to a wider market of clientele across Legere. A ghosthunter that joined the Lancer Guild would quickly find themselves alienated from the connection to Adalsteinn's superior ghoststone gear, and relegated to using lesser quality supplies from carvers without as much prestige.
