Umyana

Umyana was the language spoken by the Endalan people who came from the land of the same name.

Dialects #

Umyana had many dialects, with each Endalan microstate contributing to this pool. To outsiders of the Endala, these dialects were imperceptible. To native Umyana speakers, the difference in dialects was noticeable, but distinguishing what the dialect was and where it was from was challenging due to sheer volume.

Common Words & Phrases #

While many Umyana words were assimilated by Trader's Tongue, there were several words that saw constant use across Umyana Dialects.

M'broda #

To the ordinary Legerian, "m'broda" sounded like a term of endearment between siblings or close friends. Originally "m'broda m'baya", its literal translation was "backbone of ours", which reflected the true meaning and magnitude of such a phrase. M'broda m'baya was used when referring to someone one trusted greatly--so much so that they acted as the spine in one's life.

Originally, m'broda m'baya was reserved for the most loyal servants of an Endalan warlord, or for people like brothers/sisters-in-law--people whose relationships approached a legal level of binding. However, over time the word became more casual and eventually morphed into the shortened term of "m'broda".
