Skymetal Piranha Fly
A palm-sized insect with a metal-infused exoskeleton. Skymetal piranha flies possessed a jagged jaw with metal teeth, which they used in conjunction with their semi-magical digestive enzymes to consume metal. Males were recognized by their yellow and reddish-brown exoskeleton while females possessed a black and burgundy colouration.
These insects were metal-eaters analagous to the way moths were the bane of fabrics. Armour, weapons and machines were all at risk of infestation, so special measures such as magical incense and protective containers had to be used to keep them safe. Of course, such measures were really only needed in areas where these steely bugs were most prevalent in--which is mostly in the area surrounding Phovezila.
These things were quite resilient too. The iron, steel, and whatever other metals they ate reinforced their shells, making them difficult to swat out of the air. Their wings were a weakspot however, being quite fragile and destructible while not protected by the fly’s sturdy elytra.
