Infernal Honey
Infernal honey was a naturally spicy honey. It was exceptionally nutritious, packed with everything needed for Hivemen to tick.
Produced by madukan drones, infernal honey was produced when they chewed up and digested cellulose. They spewed this viscous concoction into honeycomb cells for storage, which was accessed by fellow hungry hivemen later.
As a protective measure, hivemen also secrete capsaicin into the honey as it was produced, giving it its signature hot kick. This helps deter opportunistic animals from stealing from their supplies. However, spiciness was considered desirable in many culimary cultures across Legere, and infernal honey became a highly coveted food ingredient. As a natural sweet and spicy sauce, infernal honey was used in many Isutan and some Phovezilan dishes.
Infernal was naturally clear coloured, but glowed very softly. The colour of infernal honey's glow matches the hive membership of the maduka that produced it. The honey would also provide interior lighting for madukan structures where there were massive quantities of it stored[^1]. Naturally, infernal honey was incredibly hard to secure. Open combat with hivemen was all but assured whenever attempting to collect some, leading to potentially astronomical pricing.
