Elementalism

Perhaps one of the oldest and most widespread of arcane paths, elementalism was the umbrella term for the seven arcane sub-paths that used the nativus archon to draw forth power from the Plane of Ucalegon: aeromancy, cryomancy, fulgurmancy, hydromancy, photomancy, pyromancy, and terramancy.

Elementalism was most well known as the magic of choice wielded by the Elementum Order.

Powers #

Because each sub-path of elementalism used the same archon, the fundamentals for each were similar and the easiest other type of magic for an elementalist to learn. However, the different behaviours of the matter and energy conjured by each path varied so greatly that intense study and practice was still required for effective (and safe) usage.

Fundamentals #

Elementalism allowed a caster to command nativus archons to open small portals to the Plane of Ucalegon, a plane of existence within the universe of Legere that was filled with roiling matter and energy. These portals filtered out the undesired forms of Ucalegic stuff so that only the elementalist's specified magic poured through. Such elementalism was often simply perceived as a caster materializing fire, water, or lightning from thin air.

One conjured onto Legere, an elementalist could control the conjured material or power, shaping and moving it as they pleased.

Combined Paths #

By combining the disciplines of multiple elementalist magics, a caster could create effects that involved both. For example, creating wave of lava by using both terrmancy and pyromancy.

Sub-Paths #

Aeromancy #

Aeromancers could conjure gusts of wind in various degrees of power and precision. Skillful aeromancers could create whirling tornados or sharp blasts of air capable of cutting things in half.

Flight was also possible through focused aeromancy.

Cryomancy #

It was a common misconception that cryomancers wielded frozen water as a weapon. Instead, they actually conjured energy vacuums that siphoned heat from an area, which would then usually manifest as ice as the moisture in the air crystallized.

Fulgurmancy #

Fulgurmancy allowed casters to create flashes of lightning and generate deadly electrical currents capable of frying anything in its path.

Hydromancy #

Hydromancers could conjure water to buffet enemies or help provide hydration for others. Many cryomantic hedge wizards and mage lancers supplemented cryomancy with hydromancy.

Photomancy #

Photomancers could project and bend light. They had limited abilities in creating illusions by manipulating the movement of light (manifesting as invisibility or small things that weren't actually there).

Photomantic combatants commonly used light to blind or burn their enemies.

Pyromancy #

Pyromantic elementalists could summon plasma to scorch enemies and ignite objects.

Terramancy #

Terramancers could conjure and move rock, creating emplacements, fortifications, and catapult ammunition out of what seemed like nothing.

Golems #

Elementalists could conjure the native denizens of the Ucalegon, eidolons, into Legere's material world. However, without a body made of material or energy from their home, eidolons would instantly disassemble into an invisible cloud of archons.

An elementalist could fashion a body made of elemental magic before populating it with the consciousness of an eidolon. This resulted in short-lived constucts that sparked and bubbled with power.

Theo flung the jewel as hard as he could against the ground. In a single moment, a massive, hulking form like that of a gorilla came to life. It whirled with flame, and Theo could do nothing but shield himself from the intense heat coming off of its body. This flaming construct spun about to face the agent of Ba'al standing before them. As it took a step forward, the wood of the seating nearby fell to ash while the metal dripped like melted cheese.

Materials #

A bountiful number of magical materials across Legere could create elemental effects:

Professions #

Elementalists had taken a wide degree of jobs over the history of Legere. The different jobs also depended on their specializations. Terramancers were often found employed in construction, while aeromancers were welcomed additions to the crew of any sailboat.

The elemental warriors of Phovezila were some of the most disciplined and skillful elementalists across Legere.
