The Rat King of The Sewers

The dense urban sprawl of Destral developed this unique folklore; that the sewer rats were lead by a king. While this idea may be laughable in cities such as Corgath or Phovezila, in Destral, it was at least partially true.

It is unknown if the rats of Destral naturally followed a hierarchy, if so and what criteria would define it. However, the natural order was disrupted when a scientifically enhanced rat entered the population. A rogue scientist from one of the Destrian Laboratories outfitted a very large rat with a speed and intelligence-enhancing surgical implant and bionic hind-leg enhancements, concealed by a pair of nobleman's shoes. This rat became lightning-fast and capable of speaking limited Trader's Tongue, and quickly became the top of its food chain. It began to call itself Steve, at least according to the street kids of Destral.

It was believed by some that this mantle of Rat King already existed among the rats, and Steve quickly became the reigning king. By others, it is believed that Steve created the throne for himself. Of course, many others think that this rat king business is nonsense and folklore.

The street kids orphaned across Destral wove a comedic conclusion to the tale of Steve involved the Heroes of Nokkville. It was said that in 9th month of 275 DHT Firen and Red, who were skulking the Destrian sewerage were harassed by The Rat King Steve. The rat moved incredibly fast, making it an obscenely hard target for the bothered lancers to kill. While dashing around, it nipped at Red and Firen, in a display of hostility. Angered, Firen blasted the rat with a potent blast of flame. Upon doing so, the rat retreated, and cried out:

Unwilling to hold such an absurd title, Firen challenged Red to a duel on the spot. Red bested Firen in the duel via a slap to the face, and seceded the throne to Red. Both men were unaware of the significance of this title, but it seemed that the other rats of the sewers bothered the pair less as they travelled from then on.
