The Lamplighter's Guild

Keep the Lanterns of the Old Ways lit.

The Lamplighter's Guild was a Destrian crime syndicate, which bordered on (and was often perceived as) a cult. They were originally a tradesperson's union for those who maintained the oil streetlights of the fledgling city of Destral.

Oil lamps, typically burning animal fat oil or wax, had become the primary way to light buildings and streets in the regions of Corgath and Northeastern Walwhite, where fafly lamps and magical flames were uncommon. However, Destral’s discovery of harnessed electricity and hard light quickly made these lamps obsolete. The Lamplighter's Guild quickly found their jobs unneeded and their craft left in the dust of progress.

While it’s certainly true that many of the Lamplighter's guild at the time either moved away or changed professions, a sizeable number were left disgruntled by the breakneck pace of innovation. Their smouldering resentment burst into an inferno with the Lamplighter’s Riots in 210 DHT. Those who still held allegiance to the guild turned to vandalism, theft, and violence. After a crackdown by the newly-established Destrian Walking Police, the guild receded to the shadows and entrenched themselves in Destrian's underworld as the infamous crime syndicate most view them as.
