Splat the Rat
Called by some a "terrifying experiment gone wrong" or "a dreadful mishap", by others this sentient bipedal rat was endearingly called "Splat".
Splat was a resident of Destral's industrial district, in the alchemical sector. Among the pumps and pipes of the sewer system, Splat had set up his shop "Splat Make Stuff Good". Though his inventions were crude, they were all astonishing prototypes; unfortunately, Splat was not the type of rat to make revisions. Splat's little store was a well-kept secret among Destral's underbelly, for those looking for inspiration or a weapon in a pinch that would work... enough.
Splat's past was a tragic tale of scientific malpractice. Bold scientists from the Institute for Alchemical Engineering were endeavouring to create a stimulant that would enhance a patient's intelligence and mental capacity. To test their new drug, they installed a dosing implant into the skull of a rat, which would drip-feed the chemical into its brain. It showed promise early on, with the rat showing instant improvement in the knowledge-based trials they were performing. The chemical cocktail proved to have mutagenic effects though, causing the rat to triple in size in just a few days. Terrified by these results, the scientists intended to put the rat down, but, upon realizing this, the rat gnawed through the bars of its cage and escaped down an effluent pipe. After some time, the rat began to meet other denizens of Destral's industrial district, became fluent in Trader's Tongue, and became the beloved "Splat".
Surprisingly, Splat was only one degree of social connections away from the top of Destral's society. Theodore Perry and Aubrey S. Archer were frequent patrons of Splat Make Stuff Good, especially in their youth. The interconnectedness of Destral's culture really did bring the highest and the lowest classes in close proximity, even though they would never acknowledge it.
Splat was supposedly aware of, but unaffiliated with, another of Destral's atrocities to rodents: Steve, The Rat King of The Sewers.
